New York Times – Article on the rise of non-competition clauses in employment contracts
By: Craig Watrous
We regularly post updates related to changes and trends in national and state non-competition laws. Steve Greenhouse of the New York Times recently wrote an article discussing an increase in the prevalence of noncompetition clauses in employment agreements (“Noncompete Clauses Increasingly Pop Up in Array of Jobs”, June 10, 2014). The article discusses a rise in the use of noncompetes in jobs and industries which typically have not relied on such prohibitions. It goes on to describe the patchwork on noncompetition laws across the United States. It’s an interesting read and offers a well balanced view of noncompetes and how they affect employees, employers, and local economies.
