Reed tries civil cases before judges, juries, administrative panels and in all ADR venues focusing on commercial matters and related counseling. His active litigation and trial practice centers on plaintiff representation in cases involving financial harm in contracts and other commercial disputes, negligence, unfair trade practices, and breaches of fiduciary duty. His employment practice has resolved wage claims, classification, discrimination and harassment, as well as cases involving non-compete agreements and trade secrets. Reed also represents clients in court on real estate and construction matters such as enforcement of purchase and sale agreements, easement and title matters, development ventures, construction performance, and construction payment claims. He is available to act as a mediator in business and real estate disputes. His diverse jury trial experience includes cases involving contracts, landslides, lost profits, real estate, construction, and pure emotional distress-related claims.
Reed’s transactional practice centers on general business structuring, advising on M&A transactions, and select real estate deals. From a litigator’s perspective, Reed brings a careful eye to transactional areas likely to cause disruption and disputes – employment agreements, partnerships, escrow, earn-outs, indemnification provisions, and reps and warranties. His commercial real estate clients benefit from Reed having litigated multiple real estate contracts and land matters from trial through the appellate courts.
For his clients not involved in litigation or needing to bring or defend a lawsuit, his objective is to resolve issues and avoid disputes altogether. Reed’s practice philosophy and goals are to help businesses manage risk, bringing greater certainty to their deals and achieve successful outcomes in high-stakes transactions.
