Philando Castile’s Family Settles Police Shooting Lawsuit for $3M |
The family of Philando Castile, a black man who was killed by a police officer from St. Anthony, Minnesota, last year, has settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the city. The plaintiffs agreed to settle the lawsuit for $3 million dollars ten days after the police officer involved was acquitted of second-degree manslaughter and all other charges. Several lawsuits over fatal shootings have been settled over the past year, including a $1.5 million settlement with Ferguson, Missouri, and a $6 million settlement in Cleveland. A joint statement by the plaintiffs and city representatives indicated that the settlement would be paid through insurance and not taxpayers.
